Our first commercial development project for our own portfolio was completed in 1986. The City of Elkhart’s obsolete police and fire station, originally built in 1895, was slated for demolition. Instead, we converted the structure to professional offices, thereby placing the building on the tax rolls for the first time in ninety years. Rehab tax credits were key to making this project economically viable. This building has since been sold in a 1031 tax-free exchange.
