Building a legacy for downtown Elkhart one development at a time

Many of us do what we can to improve our communities, but as an architect and developer, Tom Borger is in the uncommon position of being able to physically shape the city around him.

Borger grew up in Elkhart and has been working in downtown Elkhart since 1973, when he took a job at an architecture firm here two years after graduating from Notre Dame.

“I have always wanted to make Elkhart a better place, and one way I was able to make a difference was in the fabric of downtown,” he said.

WHO WE ARE

Thomas J. Borger, President
Tom is a licensed architect having graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1971 with a Bachelor’s of Architecture. Entering the development business 25 years ago further involved him in a variety of high-profile development and construction projects. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of The National Association of Home Builders, Indiana Builder’s Association, and is past president of the Builder’s Association of Elkhart County. He is also a director of the Western Golf Association and Riverwalk Association. He has been active in a variety of volunteer community organizations and is currently involved in the 2010 Coalition for Downtown Development, Elkhart County/City Advisory Council, and the City of Elkhart Architectural Review Committee.

Thomas E. Borger, Chief Financial Officer
Tom is a CPA responsible for all accounting matters at The Borger Group. With a particular talent for financial planning, he has proven invaluable in cost control and project management roles. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1995 with a B.B.A. in Accounting. Following graduation, he practiced public accounting in Chicago, Illinois, specializing in real estate consulting and business valuation. Tom is CPA certified in both Illinois and Indiana, and holds an Indiana Real Estate License. He has also worked with numerous community organizations, served on the board of Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County, and as an officer for the Downtown Elkhart Business Association.
